Standard Security Deposit

The security deposit is equivalent to 1 month’s rent. If bringing a pet, a pet deposit is also the equivalent to 1 month’s rent

Local Norm for Returning the Security Deposit

The security deposit is returned upon completion of inventory, inspection, outstanding refurbishments, and cleaning. All outstanding payments for utilities, water, electricity and repairs must be paid.

Rental Commission

Should you utilize the services of a real estate agent to help you in your search, agencies usually collect rental commission from the landlord. Lessees are not required to pay rental commission.

The agent’s rental commission is typically paid by the landlord.

School Registration

School Fees

Typical private school fees include:

• Registration fee
• Tuition
• Admission fee
• Application fee
• In some cases, there are additional fees such as for meals, extracurricular events, etc.

Public schools usually require a small application fee.

Stately German Schools are free of charge.

Accepted Method of Payment

Bank transfer and cash are accepted methods of payment.

Additional Notes

Private school fees in Ireland range from €4,000 to €10,000 per annum with International fees ranging from €15,000 to €22,000.


Local Requirements

Residency Requirements

When you move to Ireland you may want or need to establish residency.  Requirements to live in Ireland may include:

Non-EU Citizens

• Obtain a Personal Public Services number (PPS)
• Register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB)
• Irish Residence Permit (IRP)

EU Citizens will require a PPS number but do not need to register with the immigration authorities.

It is advisable to connect with a local expert to identify any additional requirements and support available to assist in meeting the local requirements.


Obtaining a Driver’s License


An Irish driver’s license needs to be applied for after 12 months of driving in Ireland. Requirements depend on original country (Non EU) and may include:

• Pictures
• Eye test
• Medical report
• Proof of Irish PPS number
• Driving lessons
• Practical and theoretical tests completed from official driving test center.

Additional Notes

It is suggested to get your International Driving Permit translated if not in English.

Drivers from outside the EU can drive on their home country license for 12 months during which they must transfer to an Irish license.


Opening a Bank Account

Required Documents

In order to open a bank account, you may be asked for:

• Photographic ID – Passport
• Proof of residency entitlement – Irish or UK long-form birth certificate or adoption certificate
• Evidence of your PPS number – Public Services Card or Social Services Card
• Proof of address

Time Required

Typically, opening a bank account can be completed same day (dependent on nationality). Check books and bank cards may take more time to arrive.

Additional Notes

Credit cards and mortgages can take up to 6 months’ history with the bank before being approved.
