Required Documents for Signing a Lease

Typical documents required to sign a lease are a valid passport and proof of employment.

Standard Security Deposit

The security deposit is equivalent to 2 months’ rent.

The security deposit is returned after completion of inventory, inspection of the unit.

Rental Commission

Should you utilize the services of a real estate agent to help you in your search, agencies usually collect rental commission equal to 1 months’ rent.

Payment of Rental Commission

The agent’s rental commission is typically paid by the landlord.

Accepted Method of Payment

Cashier’s checks, money orders or wires are preferred methods of payment. Personal checks are not typically accepted. Lease agreements are often signed in USD therefore paid in USD.

 

School Registration

School Fees

Typical school fees include:

• Monthly tuition fees
• Admission fee
• Some schools may also have a fee for additional services such as bus transportation, technology, and parent’s association (one payment, per family/year).

Accepted Method of Payment

Wire transfer, check, and cash are acceptable methods of payment. Most International schools are paid for in USD.

Obtaining a Driver’s License

Requirements

Typical documentation required to obtain a driver’s license include:

• Carnet de Extranjería (loca ID for foreigners with residence permit).
• Driver’s license from country of origin.
• Address certificate legalized by a notary or work certificate.
• Validity certificate of home country license (in order to avoid taking the driving test).
• Medical, Rules, Written and Driving tests.

Additional Notes

If all documents are brought to Perú (with apostille) when transferring, you may avoid taking the driving exam. Documents provided in a foreign language must be translated in Peru.

 

Opening a Bank Account

Required Documents

In order to open a bank account, you may be asked for:

• Copy of ID card (Carnet de Extranieria)
• Copy of work contract
• Certificate submitted by employer indicating the years you have been working for them.
• Copy of the ID page of your passport
• A contact phone number
• Proof of residency – Address in Peru

Time Required

Typically, opening a bank account can be completed same day.

Additional Notes

Generally, opening an account is a simple process, but the visa must already be approved. In some cases, with a letter from your employer, some banks may allow you to open a bank account.
